Colchester Learning Foundation, in conjunction with The Connecticut Association for the Gifted, will be sponsoring a Minds in Motion event at JJIS on Saturday, November 12, 2011, from 12:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Minds in Motion presents exciting, hands-on, fast paced workshops for all children in grades K – 8.  Workshops are being offered relate to science, the arts, and problem solving and include examples like “Odyssey of the Minds,” Money-How to Make the Most of It,” “Fencing,” and “The Science of Magic.”

Parents are invited to attend sessions geared toward adults, including a keynote address by author and educator Dr. Nancy Heilbronner, entitled Nurturing Your Child’s Talents. Following the keynote, several adult discussions will take place including, “What you Need to Know about Saving for College.”  All adult workshops are completely free and open to the entire public.

CLF provides the public with an avenue to show support for learning through targeted gifts, honor and memorial contributions, and other donations.

What is the Colchester Learning Foundation?

The Colchester Learning Foundation, Inc. (CLF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 2008 by a diverse group of community members who share the common priority of promoting educational opportunities for all Colchester residents. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. The CLF is one of a growing number of similar education foundations set up in towns across CT to enhance educational opportunities.

Types of Programs Supported:

Innovative Teachers

Teacher Grants – Fostering innovative learning opportunities in our schools by supporting teachers with creative teaching ideas.

Excellence in the Community

Community Learning Opportunities – Providing financial support to innovative learning and cultural programs through avenues like the Cragin Memorial Library and the Senior Center.

Enhancing Educational Opportunities for Students

Unique Programs and Projects – providing financial support to expand or extend beyond what is publicly funded.
